Product Overview

PUR hot melt adhesive (Polyurethane Reactive Hot Melt Adhesive) is widely used in automotive interiors due to its high initial bonding strength, resistance to high/low temperatures, humidity and aging, and eco-friendly, solvent-free properties. It is particularly suitable for the diverse materials and complex operating conditions found in vehicles.

Working Principle

PUR hot melt adhesive is a reactive curing hot melt adhesive:

  • First stage: Heated to about 100-140 °C, it melts and is applied to the substrate. After cooling, it quickly develops initial mechanical strength (thermoplastic stage).
  • Second stage: It reacts with moisture in the air or in the substrates, forming a crosslinked polyurethane network and achieving final high strength and chemical resistance (reactive curing stage).
  • This dual curing mechanism combines the fast initial tack of a hot melt with the long-term performance of a structural adhesive.
Key Features & Advantages
  • Strong initial tack - parts can be handled and formed after cooling, without displacement.
  • Wide temperature resistance - typically from -40 °C to 120 °C or higher, withstanding interior thermal cycles.
  • Humidity and chemical resistance - passes 85 °C/85%RH high-temperature/humidity tests; resists aging, alcohol, and cleaning agents.
  • Multi-substrate compatibility - good adhesion to PP, ABS, PVC, PU, fabric, leather (some low surface energy materials may require primer).
  • Eco-friendly, low VOC - solvent-free, compliant with vehicle interior odor and VOC regulations.
  • Good flexibility - remains elastic after curing to accommodate thermal expansion/contraction and vibration.
Automotive Applications
  • Dashboard skin lamination (PVC/TPO film + foam + substrate)
  • Door panel lamination (PU/PVC leather + foam + PP base)
  • Headliner bonding (fabric + foam)
  • Pillar trims, trunk trims, seat decoration parts, speaker covers
Packaging & Storage

Storage conditions: Sealed package, store in clean and dry place for 6 months. Packaging: 20kg or 200kg for one barrel.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is PUR hot melt adhesive?

A: PUR (Polyurethane Reactive) hot melt adhesive is a reactive curing adhesive. It first bonds like a thermoplastic hot melt when cooled, then chemically reacts with ambient moisture to form a crosslinked polyurethane network.

Q: How long is the open time for lamination?

A: Usually 30 seconds to several minutes. This short window requires precise process control and often automated equipment.

Q: How long does it take to achieve full curing?

A: Initial handling strength is obtained after cooling, while final curing requires 24 hours (depending on humidity and temperature).
