PUR Moisture Curing Reactive Polyurethane Hot Melt Adhesive Operation Guide

This guide has been specifically developed to address common challenges encountered by our customers when using PUR (Polyurethane Reactive) hot melt adhesives. From achieving optimal adhesive performance to troubleshooting temperature and application issues, we understand that PUR can sometimes present unique operational challenges. By following the detailed recommendations and best practices outlined in this guide, we aim to help you overcome these obstacles, ensure smooth production, and achieve the best results with your adhesive applications. Our goal is to provide clear, practical solutions that simplify the process and improve the overall efficiency of your operations.

1. Production Environment Requirements

  • Temperature: Recommended room temperature between 10-35°C.

  • Humidity: Recommended humidity between 30%-75%.

  • Material Surface Temperature: Maintain between 20-35°C.

      a) Winter (low temperature): Preheat materials.

            b) Summer (high temperature): Cooling may be applied to ensure adhesive performance.

2. Adhesive Amount and Application Speed

  • Adhesive Amount & Speed: Adjust according to the size, permeability, and initial tack strength of the material.

      a) For high positioning strength requirements, ensure the adhesive line width is at least 3mm, or the adhesive layer thickness is at least 0.3mm.

3. Material Surface Condition

  • Ensure the material surface is clean and free from contamination, such as oil, dust, etc.

       a) Recommended: The material surface dyne value should be between 32-40.

             b) If necessary, conduct corona treatment, sanding, or other treatments to improve surface adhesion.

4. Temperature Settings

  • Adhesive Tank Melting Temperature: Set between 120-140°C, to prevent adhesive aging and ensure stability.

  • Insulated Adhesive Tank / Hose Temperature: Set between 120-130°C, adjust based on flowability requirements.

        a) For every 10°C increase in temperature, the adhesive viscosity approximately decreases by half.
  • Glue Gun Temperature: Set between 110-150°C,

        a) Summer: Use lower temperatures to promote curing.

              b) Winter: Use higher temperatures to prevent adhesive deactivation.

5. Equipment Maintenance

  • During Shutdown: Avoid keeping equipment temperature above 130°C for extended periods to prevent adhesive aging.

  • Long-term Shutdown: Thoroughly clean the equipment to prevent adhesive residue from causing blockages.

  • When Changing Adhesive: Clean any remaining adhesive from the equipment to ensure no clogging in hoses or nozzles.

       a) Check seals to avoid adhesive exposure to air and premature curing.
  • Clean the Nozzle: Use cleaning agents regularly to clean the nozzle and application points to prevent blockages.
