Why Automotive Headliners Need Breathable PES Hot Melt Adhesive Web
Automotive headliner is a critical composite interior component that directly impacts passenger comfort and long-term product durability. Many manufacturers once adopted liquid glue or non-porous solid hot melt films for lamination, yet these conventional adhesive options bring several persistent drawbacks.
Liquid adhesives contain solvents, which may lead to unpleasant odors and high VOC emissions inside the cabin. Non-breathable hot melt films seal the composite structure completely. Trapped air cannot escape during thermal compression, easily triggering bubbling and blistering after installation. Besides, solid film tends to make the finished headliner stiff, ruining the soft tactile feeling that car interior designers require.
PES copolyester hot melt adhesive web features a unique fibrous porous structure. When activated by heat and pressure, the web forms continuous and reliable bonding between decorative face fabric and substrates such as PU foam, fiberglass boards and PET nonwovens. The open fiber network maintains good air permeability of the entire composite assembly while securing stable bond strength.

Excellent thermal aging and heat resistance prevent sagging and interfacial delamination under long-term high-temperature exposure, such as hot sunlight inside parked vehicles.
