How to use hot melt adhesive film/web?

Hot-melt adhesive web and hot-melt adhesive film are adhesives that remain solid at room temperature but melt and become tacky on both sides when heated. Their compositions include PES / PA / TPU / EVA / PO, etc.
Hot-melt films (and webs) can be classified by application fields such as apparel and footwear, automotive seats, sofas and recliners, etc. The application range is wide, and specific usage details vary across industries.
However, fundamentally they fall into two categories: with release material and without release material.

1. Products without a release material

These hot-melt films and webs consist of only a single layer of adhesive without any release paper or release film.
They are simple to use—just place them between the two materials that need to be bonded (for localized bonding, the film/web can be cut to the required shape first), then use a professional heat-pressing device to apply heat and pressure to complete the lamination.

2. Products with a release material

These films/webs have a layer of release paper or release film on one side. This design is mainly for applications requiring easier handling or secondary lamination. For example, when bonding labels, users need to first bond the adhesive to the label, peel off the release paper, and then attach the label to the garment. The usage method consists of two steps:

Step 1: Pre-bonding the hot-melt film to one side of the material Place the adhesive side of the film against the material and use a heat-pressing device for bonding.
Since this is only a pre-lamination, the equipment temperature does not need to be very high—generally just slightly above the melting point of the adhesive.
After bonding, allow it to cool before peeling off the release paper (if cutting is needed, do so before removing the release material).

Important note: Hot-melt films made of TPU may still retain some tackiness after pre-bonding.

• If the second bonding step will not be performed immediately, it is best to wait one day before removing the release paper.

• If secondary lamination is needed in a short time, avoid adhesive-to-adhesive contact and do not fold the material during storage.

Step 2: Final bonding with the second material

After removing the release paper, proceed with the second bonding step.
Since the hot-melt adhesive returns to a solid and non-tacky state after cooling, the second bonding also requires heat-press equipment.
Set the temperature higher than the melting point of the adhesive to ensure complete melting and finish the lamination process.
